Turn this on in iOS 26: unknown callers say why they call

iOS 26 has a feature many people have not turned on: Screen Unknown Callers.

When a number that is not in your contacts calls, your iPhone first asks the caller for more information. You read the answer, then decide whether to pick up.

Callers who say who they are and why still get through.

Good to know

1. This option is in iOS 26 and later.
2. On iOS 18 and earlier, you can use "Silence Unknown Callers". On iOS 18 it is in Settings → Apps → Phone. On iOS 17 and earlier it is in Settings → Phone. It also silences deliveries and appointments, so check your missed calls.
3. Apple's own note says calling and data rates may apply.
